Why does my boss make me do useless things?
I work as a personal assistant to an extremely wealthy lady in Beverly Hills that spends tens of thousands of dollars a year on plastic surgery, luxury brand items, etc.
Sometimes she gives me completely useless counterintuitive tasks and I don’t understand why. For instance, most recently she has asked me to sell a used DVD on Craigslist that goes for only $3 brand new. I have told her this but she is convinced that I should sell it for $15. There are countless other useless tasks that she asks me to do which I don’t understand.
She owns a very successful company, is highly educated, so there is no way that she is so stupid to assign me these tasks.
Do you think this is some sort of manipulation tactic or something? Could she be trying to get me to quit even though she’s been doing this kind of stuff for over a year? There’s no way she’s so stupid to think that these tasks are useful and worth paying me for

Anything "small" she can delegate to her personal assistant frees HER TIME and SPACE to do what she needs to do.
Sometimes bosses get impatient and give away their stuff for significantly lower than they potentially could if tried harder. But it may not be worth it for them, you probably don't know.
In your case, it is a little different, so you just have to follow what she asks you to do.
Were you able to sell that DVD?
Did you have anyone asking for it?
If yes, good for you.
You delivered the results.
If not, the DVD is going to take space.
If you think she is highly educated, respect what she does.
Loyal employees are rare and worth paying for.

She may be educated but there are probably holes in her brain. If she wanted you to quit, she'd just fire you. Tell her that all of that junk should be donated, to lower her taxes and ask her if she wants you to drop it off for donation at the end of the day. Give the donation receipt to her the next day.
