My experience has been that there is about 3000 to the surgeon and 3000 to the hospital. Cataract surgery is covered by Medicare and major medical insurance so your out of pocket cost could be as low as zero if you have Medicare and a supplement. In the US, people who have cataract surgery have the unique opportunity to pay extra for things that Medicare and insurance don't cover. You could pay several thousand per eye to be less dependent on glasses after surgery.

A lot depends on where you go, what insurance you have and the surgeon, surgicenter and the lens implant type etc. Mine just cost about $15,000, although not all bills are in. Free? maybe at a county low cost provider or with medicaid, that you would have to determine. Why a TD??
