Is it a good idea to buy both a Powerball and a Megamillion ticket using the same numbers?

Regardless of the numbers you use the ODDS stay the same. Let say the odds for Powerball are 292,000,000 to one. No matter what numbers you pay those are the odds. If you want to reduce the odds you buy two tickets with different numbers. Now the odds against you are 146,000,000 to one. If you buy three tickets the odds are around 97,000,000 to one. What you do with Megamillions has absolutely no influence on what you do with Powerball. So your best bet is to buy more tickets for whichever one you like. Also on both, the odds do not change as the big win amount goes up. So you can spend $2 to buy a ticket for either one with a big win of $25,000,000 or you can wait until that amount gets over a half billion and then play. The odds of winning do not change but the amount you get paid does.

It's neither a good nor bad idea. It will have absolutely no effect on your odds of winning or losing.

It won't matter as any combination of numbers has an abysmally low but equal chance of being drawn.

It does not make you any more or less likely to win, so from that perspective it is neither a good nor a bad idea.
It might make slightly less likely to make an error when checking your tickets. If that is true it is a good idea.
