Presidential transition: Uncharted waters?
So ALL the former Secretary of Defensives (10), both Democrat AND Republican, have signed a letter that cautioned Trump on using the military in any way to counter or contest the election or inhibit the transition of power. Unprecedented.
They warned that any military personnel (I’m sure aimed primarily at higher ranking officers) who participated in such actions could face criminal liability.
Wow this worries me. If they feel compelled to make such a statement, how close is Trump to actually taking such action? And just as frightening is that his supporter base would likely cheer such a coup on; cheer the attempted destruction of our democracy. That’s a lot of Americans who seem willing to cheer for a demagogue more than they cherish democracy itself. Scary times.
Eugene: yes they are. When democrats challenged results, no one was claiming massive voter fraud or stolen elections. Those elections were close enough that a recount could have changed the results. Not here. Biden clearly won and no number of recounts will change that. And those democrats conceded. They conceded because they put the country and it’s institutions ahead of their own political careers. They conceded because they knew that America was worth more than any one man. Not Trump.
Another astonishing point: two of those that signed on to this were former Trump SecDefs. They have a clearer view of their old boss and any of the others...and they felt it necessary to sign the letter. Huh.

This isn't uncharted waters. The Democrats challenged the last 3 GOP presidencies in the exact same way. Though the GOP's continued to win the presidency, this one, Trump might actually get it. So it can be said that the results being changed will be the greatest is modern history. But again, the Democrats did this 3 times before, with Trump and George W. Bush.

It doesn’t matter, Trump has the legal right to invoke martial law and temporarily suspend the constitution to redo the election fairly. Plus, you won’t find a court to rule against him because they’ve all signalled that they don’t want to get involved. I’d expect them to throw it it out for lack of standing.
