Xbox series X games?

Question

My girlfriend has bought me the xbox one X but has bought me call of duty cold war X box series X game Will this play on the xbox one X Tried searching on google but getting mixed responses some saying it will while others say it wont Someone please help .Im not getting console until xmas so icant even test it Why doesMS have to be so complicated :(

Did you look at the front. If it says Xbox X|S and Xbox One then it will play on both the series x|s and Xbox one.

I don’t think there is a Cold War that is series X only. I think it’s a hybrid.

You're asking if a game meant for the newest system, will play on the older system? Why would that work? Can you put an xbox 360 game in the original xbox and play it? Certainly not.

As far as I know, it should work. I don't think there's an Xbox Series X exclusive version of the game disc. It will have the Series X logo on it, but should also mention Xbox One on the case as well. 
The Standard edition works on the Xbox One natively and on the Series S|X through backward compatibility, while the more expensive editions include the One version and an upgrade from the One to Series-enhanced version of the game.

EDIT: Obviously Phukyahu and JesusMyth have no idea how Xbox Series X games work. While this couldn't work in previous console generations, the Xbox One and Series X handle things differently.

Of course it won't play on the One X, what would the point of the series X  be, if you could play the games on the previous gen console. It's not complicated in the least, it's just simple logic. This is like asking if you could play a super nintendo cartridge in a regular NES.

Update:That's not what you asked, retard. You asked if a game for the newest system would play on the last gen. Did the PS1 play PS2 games, genius? That's in effect what you asked.

You should be able to look at the game’s specs on the Microsoft store on your console. There is a spot where it shows you if the game is single player, multiplayer, 4k, etc. If Xbox Series X is highlighted but Xbox One isn’t highlighted, then the game only works on the Series X.
