SO many people LOVE their HONDA CARS until SOMETHING GOES WRONG! The ORIGINAL HONDA engines were INTERFERENCE FIT engines! This means that if the TIMING BELT BREAKS you BEND VALVES! A PRICEY repair will ENSUE! Then there is the HONDA BRAKES! If the FLUID is NOT changed at the proper INTERVAL< the pricey MASTER can fail! As a matter of FACT ALL BRAKE FLUIDS should be CHANGED when the fluid is DARK BROWN and returned to CLEAR or LIGHT PEE yellow! This FLULID becomes TOXIC with time and eventually becomes LIQUID SANDPAPER with GRTIT in it that RUINS calipers and the TOXIC FORM will SHRIVEL brake seals and rot LINES and HOSES from the INSIDE OUT! It ONLY makes SENSE to FLUSH and REFIL the brake fluid when it is OBVIOUSLY BROWN-ish and VERY VERY DARK!>> ALL FLUID wear out! TRAN FLUID, COOLANT< STEERING FLUID and BRAKE FLUID! I an WRITING THSI to TELL YOU that the BEST THING to do with ANY USED CAR is take to the DEALERSHIP and have ALL THE FLUIDS changed if you decide to KEEP IT! would NOT recommend a LEXUS generally because they DO have a TIM ING BELT and they are a MONSTER to change! THOUGH the engines are DESIGNED and MADE VERY VERY WELL other parts get PRICEY like suspensions and BRAKES< eg.! Fo ME< some of the BEST CARS are USED AUDI cars and BMW cars! They are MEANT to run ALLDAY LONG at 1500 MPH on the AUTOBAHN! If they do NOT, people will just just  NOT BUY THEM! The AUDI is made from the BEST STEELS and TECHNOLOG Out there! The BODIES are either GALVANIZED on BOTH sides STEEL< and I mean HARD steel, or ALUMINUM from America's ALCOA division! They are a SUPRB blending of ECONOMY, TECHNOLOGY< POWER< and SAFETY! AND there is the F U N factor as WELL! And then there is either BOSE SURROUND or BANG and OLAFSEN with PIOP UP speakers that DISAPPEAR when not being USED! The AUDI QUATTRO cars have won RACES around the world and even the AUDI TURBO DIESELS have won EVERYHWERE as they do NOT need as many PIT STOPS! They are SO STRONG that when a Hollywood director wanted an AUDI to EXPLODE they had to try FOUR TIMES! >>ALSo there is NO MILLILON MILLE club for ANY Lexus! The TEN or so older LEXUS cars were beginning to use OIL already at about 200,000 miles! I have NEVER seen ANY BETTER cars than EUROPEAN ONES and FORD NOW is usign ALL EUROPEAN technology in EVERY vehicle they make! It tool a WHILE to get there! The EDGE is HALF FORD and HALF AUDI! The FUSION is part FORD and PART MAZDA!>>ONE REASON i LVOE Audi cars is that they have OIL PSRAY JETS that PREVENT engine wear! Each time the PISTON goes DOWN it gets SHOT with an OILSPRAY at the skirt and WRIST PIN! This ALLOWS safer HIGH SPEED RUNNIGN and REALLY keep the engines from WEAR! I have cars out there with 350,000 Niles and they are ALL EURO or FORDS and a few ASIAN CARS that DO have a GOOD REPUTATION! It took JAPAN a while to PREVENT RUSTING UP! And AUDI and BMW are the LEADERS in RUST PREVENTION as well! LOOK AROUND and SEE if you spot a RUSTING or RUSTED AUDI or BMW car! RUST is what DRAGS the value DOWN as well as INFERIOR ENGINEERING ( read GM). NOW FORD and CHRYSLER and GM are NOW finally using OIL SPRAY JETS< but I have NEVER seen a JAPANESE car with them! GM NOW has MANY CARS out there with German OPEL engines and with DAEWOO engines from JAPAN! ANYWAYS< I would get a BMW or AUDI before a LEXUS and I am a SEASONED repair person!  ONE THING i DO not like about LEXUS is that the interiors smell like FISH to me. The AUDI smells like FINE LEATHER, even if you SMOKE! >>if you are DETERMINED to get a LEXUS be SURE to have it CHECKED OVER by a GENUINE LEXUS technician who KNOWS the INS and the OUTS and can PREDICT trouble spots ! ALL ACARS parts have MARK UPS and many are OUTRAGEOUS ones! GLAD there is an INTERNET for GOOD pat prices! Use ROCK AUTO and for GERMAN USE BLAUPARTS and PELICAN parts and 1-800- ALL-EURO and 1-800-ALL AUDI. Check the UNDERSIDE for RUST and RUSTIN G!>> also try a USED SUBARU or SUBARU TURBO CAR USED! They are F U N and RELIABLE as they GET! MOST people will NOT trade their SUBARU from ANY other car type! it is LOYALTY for sure! Youc an get a SUPERB MERCEDES SLK 239KOMPRERSOR online for UNDER 10K and they are SUPERCHARGED! Teh LEXUS model are MOSTLY rear drivers and AUDI quattro and SUBARU wrote the BOOK on FOUR WHEEL DRIVE! then came BENZ 4 matics and BMW xDrives! For a YOUNGER person good used FORD TAURUS is a GREAT CAR! There are LOTS of patents on this car and they are COMFY and SAFE with a GREAT sound system and GOOD in accidents JUST IN CASE and you would SURVIVE most crashes! NOT sure about the LEXUS cars! HAPPY HUNTING and use CARS.COM< AUTOLIST< and CARGURUS! i got the GREATEST BENZ C280 from CARGURUS for $3200! And it was FLAWLESS and GORGEOUS with NO scratches, a PERFECT MARY POPPINS type car with BOSE and RECARO seats! SADLY it was LOST tome in a SHOP THEFT and I had NO coverage for something like THAT!  32 MPG after I tuned it with DENSO TWIN TIP IRIDIUM LASER spark plugs! TIME FOR CHOW! BYE for NOW!

Even though they break down less often than other brands, you should remember that they are pretty expensive to repair and maintain. In case you're 100% sure, you can afford all the expenses, you are safe to go with it. Otherwise, I'd look for some other brand and other first car options. Take a closer look at Civic or Mazda 6.

If you can find a good Lexus that would be an excellent car as it is basically a Toyota and they can go for 300K miles if taken care of.  Usually luxury cars are bought by well to do people who take care of them so have it checked out and if it looks good buy it.  I would not buy a car from a dealer however, look online for an individual selling the car, make sure the title is in their name before you buy it.  Always buy a car from someone that lives in a nice neighborhood as that will indicate that they took care of the car.

For what you'd save in a year at any typical "17-year-old's job", the Lexus you could afford probably wouldn't be a Lexus you'd want to buy.  They're typically built well, but any car stops being reliable with lots of age and mileage.  I'd say buy a nicer Lexus when you can afford it in a few years and buy a cheap beater for a 1st car - being car-poor when you're young is no fun.  Good luck.

Any luxury car is not a good choice, especially because any that you can afford will either be so old or have such high mileage that they will be nothing but expensive problems for you. Buy a Honda or Toyota sedan instead.
