My girlfriend and I are tourists, and in Sao Paolo I was slapped and had my wallet stolen by a couple of teen guys. Should I tell police?

Seems like this is the best place to ask this question. My gf and I just graduated university, and took a two week trip to Brazil. Tomorrow is our last day and we had a great time. But yesterday, after we got quite drunk we made the bad decision to walk through a poor part of town. As we took a shortcut, we saw two boys, no older than 17, walking towards us. We're 5 years older but as one of them put a hand on my chest and pushed me against the wall, I realized he was stronger than me.

He asked for my wallet and I said I didn't have it. It was a stupid lie, said out of fear. He slapped my face so hard I lost my senses for a moment, and instantly gave my wallet to him. They then just began calling me a liar and slapping my face turn by turn until I began crying while they filmed it on a phone.

One boy then turned to my gf and said, "You really date this fa**ot? He put his hand on her face and kissed her on the lips for a full 15 seconds, before pushing me to the ground. He put his boot on my face and took a picture, then he knelt down and wrote "fa**ot" on my face with a pen and signed it as if he was branding me like an animal. They ran away laughing.

We are leaving tomorrow but two teen boys emasculating me like that as my gf watched was humiliating. Should I tell the police or just fly back home?

OF COURSE. You were the victim of a crime. Though I can't imagine what made you think it would be a good idea to deliberately walk through a 'bad part of town' in a country notorious for its street crime.

I don't know if you've already reported it but do it too bad it happened to you buddy, if I was from Sao Paulo and had seen this crime happening these punks would be dead in my hand because I'm a black belt in jiu jitsu. You better not walk in these areas and I also say not to go to the slums because it can happen worse than that

Most likely the police will listen to your story while looking at you with the " and I should care why" look. I do not understand why tourists insist on going into favelas. If I want to go see slums I can easily do that in the USA. I have been to Sao Paulo Brazil and have been to plenty of places and have yet been robbed or attacked.

Pretty good story you wrote there. The writing topic is under arts and humanities.

You can report it, but there is nothing they can do about it. Why waste your time?
