Are scientists gods?

They've improved our lives so much so that we now can live much longer than we used to. We can travel around the world in under a day. We have an endless store of information quite literally at our fingertips. We can talk to someone across the world in real time. We know more than we ever have. Besides, most scientists are incredibly intelligent. How can they be so intelligent and powerful if they're not divine? What would happen if I build shrines to some of the more famous ones?

God is above all scientists, all people, and more. You cannot have both as Gods, only one of them is a God, and that's God himself.

Gods do not exist, so no.

    Nope. Scientists are not gods.

You're barking up the wrong idol. Scientists are fact based, religion is based in faith.

No. Like other successful people, they're just good at what they do.

We’ve eradicated some childhood diseases with science but that’s about it. Most people will die in their 60’s and 70’s just like they used to 1000 years ago. Yeah those bombs and warheads have been great for us haven’t they?

It cheapens the real accomplishments of real people to say that. They did not snap their fingers and stuff magically appeared, they did the actual hard work to make those things.

It's human "scaffolding". Each scientist builds on the work that was done before him (or her). Yes indeed there are many brilliant people involved but it isn't done by magic or by any one individual. It's the collective learning of our whole species. And while we have made some incredible discoveries we also make plenty of mistakes along the way. It is uniquely human and not based on any god or god-like ability.

Those who shape the world around us, whether it is for better or for worse, are the closest things the real world has to gods.
