Does my 22-year-old disabled child qualify for the 2018 CHILD tax credit?

I have a 22-year old child who is disabled; (he has daily seizures and substantial cognitive impairment). Via his neurologists, he has qualified for SSI. It is unlikely he will ever live on his own.

My question is... Can I claim him for the CHILD tax credit on my 2018 taxes, or does he only qualify for "other dependent". Different sites are giving different info, and IRSdotgov is a bit nebulous.

Thx!

Update:

CORRECTION; HE HAS QUALIFIED FOR SSDI.

Thank you for all the clarification, everyone! It appears that I was confusing the CTC with the EITC; NEITHER OF WHICH we qualify for... THANK YOU; it's the first time I've done my taxes MYSELF, and it looks like I'll be doing them correctly!

No, not for the child tax credit. The child tax credit (CTC) is for children under 17 years old and has no provision for extending the age limit in the case of disability.

He would however qualify as a dependent under the qualifying child rules - the disability exempts you from the age limit. That will allow you to use him as a qualifying person for head of household status (if you are single) and as a qualifying child toward the Earned Income tax Credit (EITC) if your income is within the qualifying range.

He should qualify for the new $500 credit for "other dependents" but not the full $2000 amount for the child tax credit.

Other dependent, he is not a child.
