Does a garbage disposal dishwasher inlet have to be caped if the factory cap isn't removed?

Question

We do not have a dishwasher attached therefore I did not remove the plug in the "dishwasher inlet,"  However the inspector says I have to "cap the dishwasher drain port."  This doesn't make sense.  Do I have to cap a port that is already capped by the manufacturer?

That port may not be capped maybe just a plug, not very sturdy....

Add a cap.  You can probably install a Fernco cap or a PVC threaded cap.  Don't even bother removing the existing port seal, just add the cap and go on.

The port seal isn't very sturdy and could fail in use; without a cap in place you'd be stuck with a sudden major leak under the cabinet.  Add the cap and the problem never comes up.

You seem to be confused. The dishwasher inlet and the dishwasher drain port are separate.

The factory cap might be made just to keep dirt from getting in the disposal before it's installed.

New one to me, if it's a problem cap it to shut the inspector up other than that no an additional cap is not required
