What are the differences between Chevy V8 and ford v8?

Update:

An a non-expert, I just want insight. What are the difference in terms of technology they use, materials, is one better at a high rpm then the other, is one a flatter performance profile than the other, does one have a shorter stroke-to-rod length ratio and will that give higher rpm etc...

Besides the cylinder numbering system, Chevy has the distributor in the rear, Ford is up front with a front oil pump also. Exhaust ports & manifolds are in different positions and neither use the same type of carb or fuel injection. (Fomoco vs Quadra)

I never noticed them sounding differently, although that could all vary depending on the exhaust systems. Some big points, GM V8s are numbered odd and even cylinders per side, ie. one side is 1-3-5-7, the other is 2-4-6-8, whereas Ford numbers straight in a row, 1-2-3-4 and 5-6-7-8. Bank 1 on a Ford is on the passenger's side, on GM 8 cylinders it's on the driver's side. GM typically mounts the distributor in the rear of the motor by the firewall, Ford's mount up front. Most GM V8s except the Gen III (LS1, 2, 6) fire the same, 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. There's other stuff too, but I'm not well versed in GM or Mopars.

The easiest way to tell older V8's from ford and GM apart is Ford has a front distributor and oil pan along with the oil pump. GM uses a rear distributor along with the oil pan and pump. Other differences ford may have used a carter carburetor while GM used a quadrajet.

Chevy has a significant amount of V's giving it more torque. While Ford V8's have more 8 giving it better fuel economy and horsepower.

I have heard that the new ford v8s are better than the chevys v8s :(

Chevy stands for it's durability, reliability, fuel efficiency and awesomeness. Ford stands for Fix Or Repair Daily, and Found On Road Dead.

According to my mechanic the Fords are over-engineered. More complicated requiring more parts to accomplish the same action.

Just relaying info I have been told by a person who should know. I have a Ford but is has a simple 4cyl Wankel engine.

One is a Chevy & the other is a Ford. More of a choice or preference.

Chevy cylinders are numbered 1 through 8 from very front cyl to rear one(the correct way). While ford numbers them front to rear, one bank at a time.
