What's wrong with this 2009 IMac computer?
Someone is selling their 2009 IMac. He says it has a bad hard drive. He said, "I booted off an external hard drive that had OSX installed on it and it worked fine, that's why I believe it's just a busted hard drive."
Do you think this is the issue? If it is, can I just replace the hard drive and install the Operating System software?

It might not even be the hard drive, if a critical part of the operating system was corrupted or compromised. The drive could be bad, but there's a chance it's not.
