So exactly what was it that Nationals fans were cheering about in the ninth inning?

Very presumptuous on their part to cheer when Storren got to two strikes on Molina and Freese. Without strike three (or a flyout or groundout) it didn't matter very much at all. Here's some suggestions: Cheer for a RESULT. Cheer after the fact. Cheer when something ACTUALLY HAPPENS. Otherwise you just look foolish. Said another way "Don't count your chickens before they've hatched."

That they don't have to live in St.Louis.

So cheering should not be a part of the game unless there are results? That would sure make for a boring baseball game. Fan participation makes for a great atmosphere.......they were on their feet throughout the whole game. I remember it was like the fifth inning with the Nationals at the plate with a 3-2 count, 2 outs, and the bases empty and guess what? The whole stadium was cheering and on their feet.

So of course, on the last strike, they were on their feet. Did it turn out well? No. But it's better to have a stadium at least show some energy in a high energy moment. They would be getting criticism if they decided to sit and be quiet like you want.

So really, it's not presumptuous. It's a basic part of being a fan.

Here's some suggestions: Go out. Live life. Have some fun. Like, really, try to have fun and quit bitching about the small things. You will be a happier person.

Home fans always cheer loudest with two strikes, two out, and their team leading in the ninth. Have you ever actually been to a baseball game before?

umm they weren't cheering for the result, obviously because it wasnt over yet. They were rooting their home team on. one more strike and they advanced to the next round. they were cheering for last strike to be made to end the game and having the team win.

They weren't cheering as in "yes, we did it" They were cheering because they were pumped up, nervous, and excited, and were trying to be loud. You try to sit quietly with 40,000 other fans when your favorite team is about to win the NLDS.

wow, if you are asking this question you have obviously not watched a game in your life or been to a game. every team does it when they have two strikes in the ninth. get with it. You shouldn't even be watching baseball without knowledge of it or asking stupid questions. every friken team does it. it gets the close going, come on, my freaking grandma knows this. stick to ping pong or whatever it is you morons do.
