I'm not sure that there is any "right" answer. As I get older, I am more willing to try new and "weird" things when soloing.

Certainly, the minor pentatonic scale in A works great. Then, A major pentatonic works OK, too. Throw in some blues scale notes and dorian mode stuff, too.

Then, try some mixolydian mode notes. I tried a little lydian mode scales, and I just didn't like how it sounded, but YMMV.

    Try this site:

It will give you some ideas to keep your solos fresh. Don't be afraid to try stuff. There are no rules about soloing.

There is no way you can do a solo without repeating notes, you only have 12, and most of them will sound gross in a solo. Just use all your registers and repeat common phrases for emphasis.

"A" Major scale or "A" Blues scale?
