There is no "best" amplifier. But, you are on the right track, tone is everything, even to a beginner. The amp you buy will make more difference than anything else when it comes to tone. So really you need to post a new question and ask "What is the best amp for under $200" or whatever your budget is, because with amps it's all about the budget. To get into the amps that most would consider top shelf, you are looking at several thousand dollars. I went through about 15 amps before I found what I liked. I ended up staying with a Mesa Boogie, but it is a $2000 amp and it isn't the tone everyone is looking for.

The line 6 spider IV 15 amp is a great and affordable practice/ beginner amp that can go from mellow blues to rock hard heavy metal in a matter of seconds. A lot of guitar teachers recommend this amp and I do too.

    That's a ridiculous question.

If there was such a thing, then everybody would play the same thing... amp companies also wouldn't make different models of amplifiers. There would just be one amp to rule them all.

Different amplifiers sound different. They compliment different players in different ways.

If you're looking for the best sound for YOU, then YOU need to get out there and try out a bunch of different amps.
