We are destroying the earth rapidly. Increased CO2 emission and declining vegetation. What do we do?

We are suffocating ourselves. Our governments have failed us miserably. The rich and powerful rule the day. Money is all that matters. What can you and I, individuals, do? Mustn't we all start doing something immediately? Before it is too late. Each one of us right-thinking people must play a role, no matter how minimal. We cannot wait for the authorities to do something. It won't happen or it may be far too late, as it may already be. What do we individuals do. Together, we will make a difference. Some suggestions, concrete proposals, please.

Stop buying things from foreign countries, buy only local products.

Do not buy products than are over wrapped, for an example apples that are warped in plastic.

Do not but things that you do not need, basically do not over buy.

Collect rain water to water your yard, plants.

Turn off things that are not in use and also unplug them.

Use a hand mower to mow.

Do not buy "green light bulb" or "energy star light bulb", they are more harmful to the environment than your stranded light bulb "the 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 watts.

This is so easy to accomplish. The solution starts at home. Stop buying every power-consuming gadget in the market. Take responsibility for your actions and quit blaming problems on the govt. If the rich and powerful rule, it is because we permit them to rule. Quit your whining. Don't drive the car. Save money by not owning a car, by not driving to destinations which are only a mile away. Take public transportation. No car = no license plate+no insurance costs. When your house is supposed to be powered down late at night, check out the electric meter. You may be surprised at your energy consumption when the house is supposed to be asleep. Don't use an air conditioner unless you have health issues. How did your parents and grandparents deal with the heat? We are such weenies. Don't irrigate the desert. Don't complain about the heat when you live in Phoenix or Vegas. It's the desert, man. It's supposed to be hot! You can't complain and commit these egregious environmental sins at the same time. Yet that is what we do.

Listen to Al Gore. He seems on the ball lately.

Seriously though, SpartanCanuck is right. What is the point in writing something like this? It accomplishes nothing and has all been said before, and better I might add.

And honestly, although the 'rich and powerful' and 'corrupt politicians' can be blamed for a lot, in this case most of the blame lies on the masses. Individuals choose their own comfort and entertainment every day over the option to conserve energy. Ultimately all the X-boxes and SUVs may be our downfall, and it will be everybody's fault- not your leaders' fault for not stopping you from plugging in your lamp and TV.

Maybe if you utter more glittering generalities and trite posturing on the internet.
