If you are already a customer you won't get slammed with the new charges until September 1st. I currently have a 3 DVD plan with unlimited watching. I pay about $18 a month. With the new charges it looks like I'll be paying closer to $25 or $26. I'll be changing my plan down to just the 3 DVDs and cancel my instant watching entirely. The instant watching library is not very good to begin with and where I am located I don't have the best internet to really make use of it anyway.

Where alot of netflix users will potentially get screwed is that first month. Unless you actively go into your account before September 1st and change your plan, you will automatically get charged for both your dvds by mail and instant watching.

I have alot of friends who are quitting netflix entirely and looking into redbox.

Amazon, itunes and hulu also are great alternatives to netflix where you can watch movies and tv shows for less money.
