math problem help please?

i have explain what i must do to both side of the first equation to obtain the second equation.

x+4y=2

2x= -8y + 4

for this one i got 0=0 i do not understand why

7d+1=4p

21d = 12p - 3

this one i had a hard time trying to solve

if someone knows please help.

    Favourite answer

    x+4y=2

    2x= -8y + 4

    rearranging

    x+4y=2

    2x+8y=4

    if you multiply the first one by 2 you get the same as second one.

    We need 2 equations to find 2 unknowns x and y. But we have effectively one equation. Hence we cannot solve this.

    ===================================

    7d+1=4p

    21d = 12p - 3

    Rearranging

    7d-4p=-1

    21d-12p=-3

    if you multiply the first one by 3 you get the same as second one.

    We need 2 equations to find 2 unknowns d and p. But we have effectively one equation. Hence we cannot solve this.

    Okay, the first one.

    x+4y=2

    2x= -8y + 4

    You must make sure in both equations the X and Y components are on the same side of the equation. So leave the first one, x+4y=2. The second one needs the Y component on the same side of the X, so add it to the other side so it looks like this -> 2x + 8y = 4. Now multiply each side of the first equation by two. 2(x+4y) = (2)2. When you do that, it'll look like the second equation.

    Second one.

    7d+1=4p

    21d = 12p - 3

    Make the equations look like X + Y = #.

    So, 7d - 4p = -1.

    and 21d - 12p = -3

    Now, multiply the first equation by 3.

    3(7d - 4p) = (3)-1.

    Once you do that, it'll look like the second.

    Make sure when you move a number to the opposite side of the equation, the sign changes. If it's a positive number, it changes to negative, or minus and vice versa.

    Well in order to get the second equation to look like the first equation you just need to multiply and rearrange.

    1) (x+4y=2)*2 => 2x+8y=4

    rearrange: 2x=-8y+4 that's why you get 0=0 because according to the question you aren't supposed to solve

    2) (7d+1=4p)*3 => 21d+3=12p

    rearrange: 21d=12p-3

    I think you just misunderstood the question.

    x+4y=2

    multiply both sides by 2

    to obtain the second equation

    2(x+4y) = 2(2)

    2x + 8y = 4

    then by Subtraction Property of Equality,

    subtract both sides by 8y

    2x + 8y - 8y = 4 - 8y

    2x = -8y + 4

    7d+1=4p

    in this equation you have to multiply

    both sides by 3.

    3 (7d+1) =(4p) 3

    21d + 3 = 12p

    then by Subtraction Property of Equality,

    subtract both sides by 3

    21d + 3 - 3 = 12p - 3

    21d = 12p - 3

    - I'm happy to help you -

    x = 2

    y= 0

    d= 5

    p= 9
