Glutaric acid, HOOCCH2CH2CH2COOH, contains?

a. 14 σ and 2 π bonds

b. 18 σ bonds

c. 16 σ and 2 π bonds

d. 14 σ and 4 π bonds

the answer is c. can someone tell me why is this so?

    Every covalent bond forms a sigma bond. Count all your covelent bonds as one, and every double bond counts as one pi-bond.

    You have two double bonds since the product has 2 carboxyl groups attached.
