Should Humanity Intentionally Regress?

Seeing the destruction brought about by our recent technological advancements, specifically our high rate of production since the industrial revolution, should we purposefully regress our used technologies? Acting on such a choice (removing medical/technological advancements) would a generate massive death toll and would cause population size to plummet, so this would be a grave decision. I don't think this should be the main concern though, and the main question I was pondering is as follows:

Is it better to continue advancement of human technologies, given that we are creating a world that is less easily inhabitable for our own species if, through such leaps in knowledge, we gain new secrets to the universe, and extend the limits of humanity?

I would say no, because humanities survival depends on the planets survival, where as if we were technologically advanced, we could avoid, prevent, or flee from any galactic disaster.

The good news for you is that it will happen. There won't be enough cheap oil to keep everything running.

That said, I am no Luddite. I don't hate technology, but we will have to cut down on our massive consumption of energy.

Every piece of technology is only as good as the mental framework behind it. I think some technologies were designed with certain assumptions (cheap oil will always be there being the main one) I think ultimately, we will be forced to slow down, but not regress. I don't think it's as bad as people think.

A massive death toll might be avoided if someone(s) can plan a humane downsizing before there are wars for dwindling resources like oil or fresh water, or casualties from natural disasters striking people crowded into every possible corner of the planet.

humans are over crowding the planet and are over harvesting the earth so it wouldn't hurt if to regress just to help the earth I think people are too selfish by saying think of the human race, I say the world would be a better place with out humans.

only 20-30yrs back kids would run and play, computers weren't really that common, now they wouldn't know how to do their assignments with out them, or get responses to questions like yours lol. I think technology has weakened every generation from the dawn of time to now in one way way or another, we no longer have to travel large distances to get food, so people are fat (not me though cause I eat healthy and be physical)

it would be impossible for a whole society to decide that

it is not on a human level to out of the blue change the running path of gaining and growing
