The Sony Vaio VGN-FE670G computer only supports up to 2GB.
It supports: 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300
Each slot can only hold 1 GB.
Your computer comes stock with 1GB. Scan your computer (crucial.com) to see if you have two 512MB chips or one 1GB chips.
If each slot has a 512MB, to max it out, you would need to buy two 1GB chips and basically just throw away the 512MB chips.
If you have a 1GB that would be great because you can then simply buy one more 1GB chip.
You can find them for about $25 a chip. Crucial.com and Amazon.com are good sites.
Set of two 1GB Chips (if that is what is needed)= 43.99 with free shipping.

If it`s 32 bit which it most likely is, it won`t utilise more than 3GB of ram.
Have you checked what type of ram you need, you can`t just use any DDR2, you need to scan your computer with crucial, which will tell you how many slots you have, what you can upgrade to and which ram you need.
