Are all Dreams Nightmares?

Going to sleep last night, after returning from a dreamful fog, I wondered where my mind was. In this state, I wasn't really connected to reality, I was just viewing this dream environment, only being aware of what I was let to be. Is this unfocused, non-manipulative state of our minds worse that the focused one?

Is the dream a 'nightmare' just because you are holding so tightly to the illusion of control? What's makes it so much better to be focused?

I think what you're asking is, why are dreams not thought of as a loss of control, an entrapped state of mind that we're forced to experience whether or not we want to? You'd think they'd be viewed as claustrophobia inside our head. Like we're being imprisoned in our mind.

But, no, they are more like a vacation from the necessity of having to control anything.

Unlike when we're awake, and every moment of existence is a chore in some way...when we dream, it's as though nothing requires any type of help from us, our minds, etc. They're more like a reward from our subconscious.

But the true nightmares....those are no such joy....and I always get SO angry when a nightmare causes me to wake up, crying, angry, frightened, screaming etc...and the feeling stays with me all day, especially if I don't go back to sleep afterwards. After having a bad dream or a nightmare, I'll think, why did my brain do that to me?! I get angry at my subconscious!

You do make an interesting point. But, I don't find the loss of control a pain at all when having nice dreams. Thank goodness for dreams. I mean, yes, its like having control is everything in life...but dreams show us that we don't have to worry or manipulate or make everything perfect.

    Not all dreams are nightmares.

Some dreams are nightmares this is true, but other dreams are very nice they give such strong memories which are extremely positive to recall. Like a dream of being on holiday in a beach house that makes you want to go back for more

    A dreamful fog huh?

I don't know what "really unconnected to reality" means either. (For real)

    I have a clue though.

Your last question has validity so I will answer.

    Or do I need to?
