Adobe Photoshop... HELP!!!?

I am frustrated beyond belief. I basically want to cut out the people in my pictures and put them on a different background. My hand is not very steady so the lasso tool is difficult for me to use. The magic wand tool just picks out differences in color. Help please!!! What am I doing wrong, or what is the trick to simple photo editing???

    Zoom way in.

When you select with the lasso tool, you can add to the selection by holding shift when working and remove from the selection by holding down option (I think - just try a few combinations if this is not right).

Using the add to selection or remove from selection and the lasso will allow you to get a nice detailed selection.

Search for tips on YouTube. There are lots of great Photoshop tutorials videos on there.

The magic wand tool has a sensitivity setting, (labeled tolerance I think.) Change the setting to make it able to select a color range more accurately.

The wand also has three modes, add - subtract and new. The add mode will add to the selection when you click. Using these there modes should allow you to select the background or your target.

    Zooming in can help tremendously.

There is no magic anything that will make this completely easy. It takes a bit of patience and effort.

The more "busy" the background behind the target your trying to cut out the harder it is to clear the background. If your making photo's, do like the pros do and have the target stand with a solid color background behind them so it will be easy to use the magic wand.

try the magnetic lasso tool (right click on the lasso tool and choose it), it makes it seem to "stick" along lines of changing colors. or you could just cut out the whole background using the magic wand tool.

Select color range Hold shift to select more then one color.. then unselect any parts you don't want deleted with the lasso tool.. then cntrl X to delet..

Or do rough out line with lasso or magnetic lasso.. delet.. then use another layer.. underneath.. make it grey or some neutral color.. change opacity of your image layer to fifty percent and use eraser tool on the edges zoom in close for hard parts like fingers and hair..
