Why are my speakers distorting?

I just bought a brand new head unit and installed it. I also have (2) pioneer premier subs in a ported box behind my truck seat hooked up to an ma audio amp running 1500 watts @ 1 ohm. When the subs are off or turned down the 6 3/4" speakers (in my front doors) are fine but if i turn the subs up they distort, but only at certain frequencies. I've tried to adjust the high and low-pass filters on the hu but still at high sub volumes they distort. Is it due to the air these subs move because they move alot. Also would replacing the speakers help, they're stock. My truck is an 05 dakota club cab.

Often times when you get a new deck it starts a chain reaction of a consumer having to replace at least the speakers in the car. What happens is that the new deck has a built in amplifier that increases the power to each speaker it is connected to. Moreover, your stock speakers are too weak to handle that type of newly applied power. If you got new speakers that are more powerful you would be able to crank the volume up a little more, but you will still have distortion at some point when increasing the volume because then you're over exceeding the power of the new deck. That's when you decide to get an amplifier for your speakers. Once you do that then you're set. Later on you might decide to get some subs which you've already done.

So, you should replace the speakers and if that suffices then leave it alone but if not you should get an amp for the speakers. I suggest Alpine for the speakers and amp or Polk just for the speakers.

But if you have Infiniti speakers that came with the truck when you bought it then you might be able to just add an amp and not replace the speakers at all because Infiniti is a very good brand for speakers and subs. You should figure out whether the speakers are Infinitis and then figure out their rms wattage and if it is pretty high (60-100 watts or so) get an amp. But if they are not infinitis get new speakers.

I hope this helps and good luck!
