IB Spanish essay exam: score of 0 for being off-prompt?

My IB History HL teacher tells us that you automatically get a score of 0 on your IB exam paper essays just for writing off prompt. I was wondering is it the same for the IB Spanish B SL paper 2 essay?

A few days ago I took my IB Spanish exam and one of the prompts we could choose from was something like you want to pursue "una carrera universitaria" and that I had to write a letter to the director of studies at the university I wanted to "asistir" at, convincing him I was the right person. I thought it meant I wanted to be a teacher's aide at the university and I wrote what I think was a great, persuasive essay; but then I found out that it meant I wanted to be a student at the university! Doh!

Anybody have any experience with IB Spanish paper marking who can help me out? :( I think I have a good chance at an IB 7 but if I get a 0 on Paper 2 my chances fall greatly! ><

My teachers have also said that you would get a zero if you are completely off topic. However, it seems like your essay does have 'something' to do with what the prompt addressed. Perhaps you would get partial credit.

My friend had taken the French exam last year and she also misinterpreted the prompt slightly. However, she ended up getting a 5 anyhow.

I haven't taken that test yet (next year - eek!), but I think you might be able to get a partial score if your answer was pretty generic. Plus, you can be a student and a teacher's aide. It just sounds like it depends on how the grader interprets your essay...it sounds like you have a 50-50 chance of getting credit. Good luck!

I took it final 12 months and it honestly wasn't that unhealthy. I continuously saved an A in Spanish elegance, however, truthfully, could not (and nonetheless can not) preserve a coherent dialog in Spanish. I received a five at the examination, which used to be well ample for me. Most persons in my elegance received five's.

  • Sorry, but I haven't taken that test. But, I wish you luck though!
