Why the heck is my ring finger swollen?

I've noticed since November that it's been become harder and harder to remove my engagement ring from my ring finger. It's the ONLY finger that's swollen. Initially, the swelling came and went; some days the finger was swollen; some days, not. However, these past two weeks, it appears to be getting worse. It's always accompanied by a ring of dry skin, right below the knuckle, and some very slight tenderness (I think the tenderness comes from my yanking my ring on and off). The dry skin is darker than the rest of my finger, like it's a bruise. I thought I may be retaining water, and I did start using a new lotion right around then, but it seems weird that only one finger is affected by it and not the rest, so I'm apt to discount an allergic reaction. I work with computers often, so I thought it might be carpel tunnel, but I can't be sure. Has this happened to anyone else? Help!

Sounds like you have a bit of edema (fluid) in your finger. If it's an ongoing problem, it might be wise to get your ring resized so when it does start to swell a bit, you can remove it.

When it's swollen, there will be an indentation under the ring and eventually the skin might start breaking down a bit. Hand cream isn't going to help

    Swollen Ring Finger Causes

You could have jammed your finger by constantly pulling your ring off, I've jammed fingers before and they do become swollen and feel tender and looked almost bruised.

REMOVE the ring and leave it off for a while.

If the swelling does not go away in a few days, they you are probably just getting fat. One finger at a time.

    Consult your doctor.

Could be gout, see the dr if not it will only get worse and more painfull. Stop wearing the rings until its resolved.

You could be allergic to your ring, I have seen it several times before

It could be a slight break, go to a doctor and have it x-rayed.

it's from wearing your ring too much.

try using lotions when you wear it or ask you fiancee if you can take it off when you're home.
