What can I do to REALLY block popups?

I don't know what to do. I get pop-ups all the time for "free" ipods and "free" giftcards and from adultfriendfinder. I have popups blocked in internet explorer. I have a security thing that has popups blocked. I tried some sort of windows live scan thing but activeX wouldn't let it work right. I also continually get spyware, that I scan for and delete, but they come back all the time. I don't know what to do.

Popup blockers will not stop adware. They stop popups from websites you visit. Adware installs software that will cause popups no matter what until you remove it. Good free programs to remove them are Adaware SE, Spybot, and superantispyware. Antivirus is needed too. Get either Avira or AVG.

After you see a popup, open the Browser History. Use the sundial icon or type Ctrl-H.

Look for the exact URL for the popup.

Then open Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Restricted sites.

Enter the domain part of the URL in the restricted sites list.

Example: fun.adserver.com is entered as "adserver.com".

Do that everytime you encounter an objectionable site.

I generally recommend that you run a firewall such as ZoneAlarm and scan your system with Spybot. Spybot doesn't need ActiveX scripting.

You might try an alternate browser. I use an older version of Mozilla, v 1.7.12. It works fine.

The firewall works UNLESS you let down your guard. Someday you will see an enticing offer and allow the infection to penetrate the firewall.

    Good luck,

Well I think sometimes when you're downloading programs the spyware itself attaches to the file that you have downloaded and it extracts once you install it. It doesn't usually happens if you know trust what you're downloading. I would recommend you downloading spyware docter & AVG Anti spyware. I would Recommend you a Anti Virus program & Anti Spyware. By the way enable your Firewall.

Trend Micro on my system seems to do a pretty good job. :)
