Can a dry erase board be painted?

I'm wanting to paint a magnetic dry erase board to use for a classroom discipline chart. I do not have to use it anymore for dry erasing, but it does have to stay metallic. If I sand it lightly before painting it (or use a primer), will the magnets still stick? I was going to use acrylic paint. Any suggestions?

I doubt that the magnetic part of it is on the surface, as it wouldn't last long if it were. I would lightly sand a corner and try your acrylic paint. I should only take a few minutes to find out. The acrylic wouldn't hurt the magnetic part. Good idea. Good luck!

ANYTHING can be painted, dear, but it isn't always practical...you can get magnetic paint at any paint store. and masonite properly primerd will work better any day.
