I have studied the Watergate scandal and cover-up for nearly 30 years and I've NEVEr run across anything that stated clearly what was in the office safe. I don't think there was ONE thing that the burglars were looking for. In fact when they broke into the Watergate complex on June 17, 1972 they were there to REPAIR and REPLACE bugs that had been placed in there over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. They were not sent there explicity to break into a safe (that I am aware of.)

The safe in Larry Brien's office was supposedly holding something politically damning about the Dems. The true target has never been discovered.
