  • How to kill potential mold in carpet?

One of my housemates left the water-hose faucet running for quite awhile and the accumulating water leaked down the side of the basement and up through a crack in the concrete flooring, enough to mildly dampen a 3x3 area of carpet. I used a shop vac and vacuumed up as much of the water as I could as well as having several fans running for 36 hours. I have read that I need to apply a 50/50 vinegar-water mixture or isopropyl alcohol to the area in help prevent the growth of mold. Should I simply spray this onto the surface or fully saturate the area that was dampened by the water?

  • Would it be ok to shave a Yellow Labs coat down to about an inch? She is an INSIDE dog.?

I mentioned that she is an inside dog because most of the thread regarding this topic 1) assume the person would shave the dog down to bare skin, which isn't the case and 2) all seem to say "NO, it'll get a sunburn", which also isn't the case here since she is rarely ever outside for more than 2-3 minutes at a time. Thoughts?

  • Is there any way to delete old text messages off an iphone (2G) without the SIM card?

I have a 2G iPhone with a broken SIM card tray lock inside the phone so it cannot read the SIM card. A guy wants to buy the phone and fix it but I want to clear any old info first. Any way to do that without the SIM card inside?

  • Odd problem with a floor drain in the basement. ?

It appears water is either backing up or pooling around a floor drain in the basement. The catch is the drain is under carpeting in a finished basement. There is no standing water at the present time but the carpet is very damp. At one point it was wet enough to completely soak a t-shirt I had laying on the floor. At first I suspected maybe it was water draining from the washing machine or dishwasher but those run to a drain located near the water-heater in a separate area. This drain is located ~20 feet away more towards the center of the basement in a sunken area of the floor. The Realtor did not know what the drain was for when he was asked about it during the walk-through. Could this drain be for groundwater? Is it possible there is a lot of condensation collecting in this area (it is December in Kansas after all)? There is no smell so I would assume it's not sewage. Thoughts?

  • What's the best way to invest $2,300 for a year or two?

One of my CD's just matured and it only gained about 4% ($80) over the course of the year it was invested. I'd like to hear some suggestions about getting the best return after adding a bit of money and re-investing for another year or two.

  • Question about recovering a file from Microsoft Word?

I opened a Word doc from my email without using the save option. I then edited the doc. and hit the disk/save icon but not the "save as" option. I then had to re-start my comp. Now when I open Word the file name is there but when I click on it I get a "invalid filename" pop-up. I also tried searching for all "*.doc" files and it didn't show up then either. Is there anyway to recover the version that I saved?
