Hi -

My elderly mother (she's 89) will be undergoing hip replacement surgery next month. She lives alone, still drives and is in pretty good health other than needing the surgery. Our family is poised to come into town in shifts to help her during her post-op recovery period.

Is there anyone out there who can give me some idea of what to expect during this time? How much assistance is my mother going to need? Will we need to rearrange the house so she can get around better? How long does recovery take?

Advice from anyone who's been through the surgery or assisted someone else during recovery from the surgery would be so helpful. My mom's been fairly uncommunicative about the post-op procedures and I don't know if it's because she doesn't know or just doesn't want to talk about it - she's a pretty independent cuss.
