hey ppl, i'm a relief-pitcher in my school under-19 baseball team. i pitch side-arm on a regular basis. but been havin sum trouble wid my pitching arm lately...(especially after excessive amounts of pitching practise)

my question:is it my action which causes pain n discomfort?

my coach tells me to ignore the pain n carry on pitching....accordin to him, the more i pitch, the more i'll get used to my action...n the less pain i'll go through after pitching. is it true?

ps:any other suggestions to improve my pitching are welcome:P

  • India, precariously poised?

Below is an extract from the cricinfo.com live commentry, 3rd test match, India tour of Sri Lanka.

    34.5 Mendis to Tendulkar, OUT

    SR Tendulkar lbw b Mendis 14 (22b 1x4 0x6) SR: 63.63

Tendulkar has asked for the review for the lbw decision. What drama here! He didn't pick the googly. He leaned forward and padded it away! It landed just outside the off stump and hit him in front of off and middle and on the knee roll. That looks out. Decison pending.

    >>>OUT!<<<

What do the Y!A community think about this particular test match? And what of the whole series?

(In my opinion, this series is one of the best ever played in the recent past)

  • More details about the REVIEW system?

Will the new review concept encourage umpires to be more brave in their decisions? (especially in judging lbw decisions) In other words will they give OUT batsmen on occasions where they wouldnt have done so earlier...ex.lbw appeals with the batsmen struck in line but with a good stride forward:P

And how many reviews are allowed for a team in a test match? Is it 3 unsuccessful reviews per innings? Then why o why dont batsmen use their reviews when they know the reviews will be wasted if they dont use em? Ex. SL are xxx for 8 wickets...and they gt two more reviews to go...Kumble to Mendis...Wrapped on the pads! Howzaaat? Given! and Mendis walks back to the pavillion...hmm why didnt he jst try a review 4 the sake of it being there...even if he loses SL will still have another left 4 the last batsman!?! I can understand players conserving reviews...but shouldnt they utilize them when opportunities present themselves?

  • Interesting comment...?

Arun Lal made an interesting comment during a discussion about highest wicket takers at test level....when Waqar Younis(i think) praised Murali's achievements and said that it'll be very hard for any other bowler to break his record, Arun replied saying he was sure noone will gt anywhere near 700 wickets in the future...well, apparantly test cricket isnt gonna be played as frequently as b4...........

Will this prevent bowlers from getting ...say 500-odd wickets-a-career? What does the y!a cricket forum think?

What's to become of test cricket?

    How long will it last?

  • What is Ajantha's stock delivery?

when mendis began his career in the caribbean, he used to bowl conventional off-spinners and flickers (now christened 'carrom ball') for a better part of his overs. but since the asia cup in pakistan he seems to have grown in confidence and bowls a more diverse variety of deliveries.

    1) what IS mendis's stock delivery (if he has any)

    2) would he be better off having a stock-ball? in other words...will it help him to surprise batsmen with his variations?

  • Sri Lanka complete a well fought victory?

For the first time in history, Sri Lanka won a test match against WI on caribbean soil. It was a good performance all the way by the Lankans. They deserved this win.

First innings tons by Warnapura and captain Jayawardene put the hosts on the backfoot right away. But the West Indian tail wagged just enough for them to avoid a follow on. SL batting a second time went for quick runs losing wickets at fairly regular intervals. But good enough performance by Warnapura(62) and Samaraweera(56n.o) ensured the tourists of a strong lead at the declaration point. The WI second innings looked more composed even though they lost opener Smith before the end of play, day4. Sarwan and Bravo piled up a 100+ run partnership giving WI some hope. Still the fighting Lankan bowling attack came back in the middle and last sessions to finish off another mediocre batting performance by the hosts.

Chaminda Vaas(8 wickets in the match) was adjudicated 'man of the match'.

    Your thoughts please?

  • Warnapura, future of SL?

Malinda Warnapura who was brought back to the SL test squad to fill the void created by Sanath Jayasuriya's retirement made full use of the opportunity by scoring a hundred and a fifty in the three-day practise match agaist the selected WI XI. And he continued to impress in the opening match of the Digicel test series by making yet another century. He was finally dismissed by a WI bowler for the first time in the series, but not before making 120 valuable runs.

Have the Sri Lankan selectors got it right for once? Will this young player prosper as the new opener for team SL?

    Your kind thoughts pls?

P.S - I acknowledge TEARS NAFEES! His prediction "Warnapura is our future" came good.

  • Murali out, Mendis in???

I can understand Murali not being selected for the WI tour as he needs a rest. But is this uncapped spin bowler the suitable replacement for the great off-spinner?

    http://content-sl.cricinfo.com/srilanka/content/pl...

Ajantha Mendis who plays for SL Army is renown for being a wicket-taker in the local arena. He bowls a variety of deliveries including legspinners, offspinners and doosras with a very unusual grip (two fingered I think). But he's equally capable of bowling all over the place when he gets it wrong.

Will he prove himself worthy in the upcoming test series or will the WI batsmen get the better of the young debutant?
