  • big block chevy motor compression high octane?

am running, 12.5:1 compression on my 540 big block chevy, thats the way i purchased the classic camaro i have now. the ex owner told me he ran 100 octane on the motor, but lately I've tried using 91 octane and it runs okay. I would like to know if by any chance am risking the motor from breaking or somehow messing up the internals. the car is only driven to car cruises shows, no track time, even though the dyno sheets the owner supplied me with list 643.4 horse power @ 4700 and 575.8 foot pounds of torque at the same rpm. Should I be adding some octane boosters or should I just keep on using 100 octane?

  • Holley HP 750 carburetor problem?

I recently swapped my 750 edelbrock carburetor for a 750 HP holley carb, now am having a small issue. I have a built 350 small block chevy, pinky rods, je pistons, afr 210 heads and a air gap edelbrock intake, according to my builder its a 10:5 to1 compression. Anyway, once I installed the Holley my throttle response got way better, but for some reason once my car reaches high speeds it turns off and i get some back fire out of the carburetor. I have a brand new 130 gph fuel pump and a regulator. A buddy of mine told me I might need to adjust the timing a bit more to get the car running more steady. any help will be appreciated. thanks.

  • LS1 LSX on 1969 camaro?

Just recently one of my buddies decided to go a different path with his ls2, and ended up selling me his AFR 225 mongoose aluminum heads for a sweet price. I actually thought on selling them for profit, but now that I have them I cant resist building something neat for them, perhaps convert my 69 camaro into a protouring car in the near future. Anyway, my question is, I seen a few carbureted LS1 lsx motors, and I was wondering if its mandatory to have a bunch of sensors on the motor? I seen a couple ls engines with distributors in the front, but I don't now whats up... I included a picture of what i'm talking about.....

NO censors with carb. Is it just the distributor that makes the difference?

  • Mallory electric fuel pump on 69 camaro?

Just recently received a mallory electric fuel pump for my 1969 camaro. I just want to know where's the safest place to install it in? I heard that installing it in the engine compartment walls might cause a fire. Thanks for any advice. Btw the model is 4110 and my motor is a 454, the online manual says I don't need a regulator. Thanks

  • I just invited a girl I really like over for a BBQ.?

So I really like this girl (had a small crush for her since my sophomore year in high school, i'm now a soph in college). so anyway, it's been about 3 months since I been talking to her over online, we been getting to know each other pretty good. So anyway, the point is that I invited her to my bbq, and she agreed to come over. Now, I'm a really shy/timid guy, and won't know how to act, any advice on what to ask her, open a nice conversation that will last. i wanna keep her entertain. The other thing is, that my friends are too liberal, they like drinking a lot, having random conversations, and on top of that curse a lot. IDK what to do, cos a bbq without friends isn't really a BBQ, haha. So should I just let it be?? any advice will be gladly appreciated!

  • Dented my headers to fit on my 69 camaro....?

I recently swapped my 355 sbc small block for a 454 big block and the hedman headers for the bbc didn't clear the steering box so I decided to bang the crap outta them. Now, they fit and clear everything.... my question is, since the headers weren't made espcially for a 69 camaro, would I lose any performance for the banged up header?? (I only had to bang one tube, not all 8.... Please let me know. Thanks!

  • Flowmasters on my 69 Camaro.?

I recently came up on a pair of doug thorley headers and for a bonus the dude also gave me a bolt on dual exhaust system by Flowmaster. I went over the serial number on the mufflers and they seem to be the 40 series...which are supposedly the loudest made by flowmaster. I'm in the Los Angeles area, do you guys think cops will be diks and stop me for sound violation, or would they respect a classic? I have a 461 big block, with mild cam.

  • 355 SBC Brownfield aluminum heads....?

Long block Chevy 350 bored to a 355. Has a complete roller set up: Comp Cams Roller cam, roller lifters. Chevy High Performance 1.6 roller rockers. Pete Jackson noisy gear drive. Complete set of racing aluminum heads (Brownsfield) with Comp Cam springs, valves and retainers. These heads came off a 400 funny car and ran only a few times. Compression is 10:1.

Heads are port matched and polished along with a Victor Jr. single plane intake to match.

.....Do you guys think it's a good buy for $1800??? From what I know AFR purchased Brownfield back in the day, the Heads any good??. Thanks

  • 355 chevy SBC for camaro?

A friend of mine is upgrading to a 383 so he decided to give me his 30k mile 355 complete engine... He said its bone stock...030 over with cast rods, cast -10 crank and regular gm flat top pistons and crane cam... the only problem is that he wants to keep his double hump heads and holley intake... now that I think about, I wouldn't mind getting myself a pair of AFR 180 eliminator heads and perhaps a nice JR victor intake, I just gotta save a little. lol. Now my question is...would I make any really nice HP with that combination??? my buddy says i'll be pushing a good 400 hp, but although hes a good friend, i highly doubt his word.... everytime I hear about fast motors, they have tricked out forged pistons, scat cranks, forged rods etc. I don't plan on screwing around with the shortblock, i just want to know if the combination i just described would be a nice fit, for those expereinced mechanics, how much HP do you think the motor will be producing??? (just a little insight, the local core wholesale place around my vicinity is selling the afr 180 heads for $700 supposedly off a wrecked car..... THANKS FOR YOUR HELP LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!

My sbc 350 recently developed a knocking sound that is driving me crazy. Would anyone know what may be the problem? Here are the few things I tried and it still does the same thing: made sure no rockers were hitting the valve covers, i had a mediocre mechanic tight them up (unfortunately he didn't know what was wrong). someone help me!!

heres a video of my long way to go project.
