  • What are acceleration blocks?

I was reading an article on BBC News about the ISS narrowly missing some space debris. From the article: "A Russian official said that only 10% of all objects in Earth's orbit are satellites, while the rest is rubbish: spent rocket stages, defunct satellites, acceleration blocks and other debris.".

Does anybody know what "acceleration blocks" are? I tried looking it up, but all I could find was some Russian universities have courses called "Space Vehicles and Acceleration Blocks", but nothing about what those actually are. I assume it's some Russian term that has been translated into English badly.

Anyway, anybody know what is meant by an "Acceleration block"?
