Do you know of any websites showing ways to keep hot air from going upstairs and cold from going down. Maybe a sliding door with hardware mounted to the ceiling, or sliding fabric panels? Don't want it to look cheap. Is there anything sold to solve this problem? I'm moving to a house that doesn't have a door at the top of the stairs and I know it will be more expensive to heat and cool. The opening is around 36' wide, same as stairs. Thanks.

We're retired and in good health. We'd like to give away what my mother leaves me, to someone other than our children. #1, Would the person we give it to have to pay gift taxes? Also, I've read that if we would fall on hard times and one of us ends up in a nursing home with the state footing the bill, the government would go back a few years and see that we gave away a large sum of money. The spouse that isn't in the nursing home would have that same amount deducted from the amount of money that he/she is allowed to keep when they start paying the nursing home bills. #2. Is that last part true and is there a link were I can find that rule? Thanks!

I like the white shiny laminate coating on shelving boards and would like to use them as stairs if they are strong enough. They are slick so I'd use carpet stair treads down the center or paint the center portion with a non-slip epoxy paint.

Especially those that post rude replys that are not answers at all. They post nasty (remarks) questions instead. For instance, someone just replied to a person's question "do I look like a doctor". Others insinuate that the question has another meaning, etc. Wish there was a thumb (as in thumbs up or down) where we could click on those replies from others.... he/she wanted an answer, not a wise quack. Quack, doctor, get it..never mind.

The tiger eye stone in my ring has become dull (old ring). Anyone know how I can get it to shine again without removing it? My next question would be.... why isn't there a category for jewelry; most people own it.

My friend is having money problems and hadn't heard the Social Security rule on retiring early the year you reach Full Retirement Age. I let her know that she can start drawing Social Security on 1-1-11 and keep working full time. She will be 66 in Sept. so she can make up to $37,680 the first 6 months of 2011 without that SS penalty. This extra pay will help her get out of debt and maybe she can actually retire sooner than expected. After Sept. 1, she can earn all she wants. If she has to work a few more years, at least she can also get SS checks, it's like a huge raise to her. Of course with all income added in, there is a possibility she may have to tax income tax on some of it.

Two months with AARP was all I needed to find out what a rip-off it is. They pay less than $2 on a couple of $10 (3-mo. supply) prescriptions and very little on Premarin. I get a generic Premarin at Americapharmacy.com for a fraction of the cost, and two prescriptions at Walmart cost $10 each for 3-mo. I researched Internet and talked to my doctor about generic Premarin. Seems the drug maker has fought long and hard to keep the generic away from Americans. I now order it online and pay all of it myself ($35 from 3-mo supply compared to my cost of $120 with the AARP Sup.). With my AARP premiums and my out of pocket costs for meds, I'd pay nearly $1,100 a year. Droping AARP and paying 100% of my drug cost, I pay only $236 a year. That savings could someday pay for expensive meds should I ever need them. It's a gamble I willingly take. Act now if you want out of AARP, it's the only time of the year they will let you cancel. Research other drug options.

Besides the people that get their lips chubbed-up, does anyone actually like the puffy, fish-mouth look? Also, can they get rid of the look once they have had the procedure? Farrah had thin lips and was considered gorgeous. Hated the movie Eat Love Pray, and found myself staring at Julie Roberts puffy upper lip. Had victorian shades in living room and I painted three small white hat boxes and gave the fan a more modern look. Now I want to do something with the three brass lights (they look like track lighting) on my ceiling fan in my bedroom. I don't have any ideas. They can't be removed, I just need to cover them with something. I can't find anything online.

The paint rollers look like they are the regular size in length but they aren't nearly as big around. I haven't seen them in any of the hardware stores I've been in. I don't know what they are called or I would Google them.

Flagpole was centered on edge of deck, but flag kept winding around the pole. I want to hang it vertically from the bottom of the deck. I know flags in windows or hanging off buildings have the stars at the top left. Is that the correct way to hang mine under the deck? Thanks!

When my friend has indigestion she swallows an aspirin to make the pain go away. I suggested she see a doctor. I read that you should take an aspirin when you have that kind of pain because it could be a heart attack. Your answers might help me convince her to get medical help.

about people throwing blood or flour on you? I don't understand how some people with leather footballs, or if they have suede and leather shoes, coats, purses, wallets, belts, etc. can be so nasty to people wearing fur coats. Killing is killing whether to eat the meat or wear the skins for warmth.

Grandma gave me a gorgeous raccoon coat and I hesitate to wear it. She said the animal has been long dead and I should wear it in their memory or tell people it was just road-kill and you are salving it and being green. Gram has a sense of humor. I thought about pretending it wasn't real fur.

The floor models are hooked up to cable TV with high def. I'll have to pay about $20 more a month to get high def. from cable TV, to get the picture quality the floor models have. Maybe $20 more a mo., so I'd like to at least get a good deal on a large flat screen.

I want to dress as a stripper (already naked) at Halloween and I need to know how to attach those tassels to my boobs. I also could use directions for making them whirl around in different directions. If I don't get directions for both I might have to end up wearing a total body suit and pin them on. I've had a best girlfriend for years. If someone asks her to do something , she sometimes tells me about it but never includes me. We've met weekly for lunch for several years, but last week she emailed me at the last minute saying she was eating with 3 other friends instead (my friends too). I always thought it's when a couple stay married because it's too expensive to live apart. Then I wondered if any of you consider your marriage to be for convenience only. If so, what are the reasons you are staying together?

He could be afraid I'll tell his wife (my friend) that he has made unwanted passes toward me, because he is plotting against our friendship. Lately, my friend has been making smippy little comments that could only have come from lies he's telling her. I feel a lot of tension when I am around her now, and sometimes I don't answer the phone when she calls. I don't want to come between anyone and their spouse, besides she might not believe me anyway. How do I handle this, do I just walk away from my best friend?

I am interviewing for another job next week just to get away from him. He is my supervisor and until this harassment began, my husband and I saw both of them socially. I used to see her several times a week and we would talk to each other daily.
