  • Wheel building... 36 spokes, 40 holes?

I'm planning to convert a mountain bike into a fixie.

Found this hub, with 40 holes, but my rim only has 36 spoke holes.

    Would this still work?

    How do I do it?

  • What gear ratio are you guys riding on a fixie?

I live in vancouver, and my daily commute is fairly flat with a couple of short climbs and moderate descends. What should I run on a fixie?

  • What colour should I paint my bike?

    It's a 24" KHS that I'm turning into a fixie.

I want something that will really stand out and be unique.

    Gold? Metallics? Neons?

  • If baby bikes have a fixed wheel...FIXIE?

I have asked this question before, but I got mixed reviews. I'm asking again, hoping to get more opinions on this.

It might sound crazy, but I was wondering, those baby bicycles were fixed gear. Can we perhaps steal their hub and build a adult wheel with it? Theoretically, both are fixed gears, so....

    would it work?

  • How can you tell a freewheel apart from a fixed hub?

I'm planning to build a fixie, and are looking to scrounge through some old bike shops to find a suitable hub. How do I tell a fixed hub from a freewheel. Are there particular things that I should look at, spin, etc...

  • Converting freewheel into a fixie?

I read the Sheldon Brown article and was wondering if using loctite to secure the track cog and the lockring would actually work? Has anyone tried it? I know it's more risky than buying a fixed hub, but I am new to fixies and I am on a budget.

  • How do you learn to ride a fixed gear bicycle?

I'm looking to learn to ride a fixie because it's just so cool.

But how do I get started? Should I convert a bike into a fixie or should I buy one? Where should I practice? What are some of the techniques that I'll need to learn? stopping? slowing down? going downhill?
